Five things, described by what they are for rather than by a package name. There are no prices on this page, because what a site costs depends on how many pages it has and where its content comes from, and a number here would be a guess about your project.
Brochure sites
A small number of pages that say who you are, what you sell and how to reach you. Five to fifteen pages is the usual range, and the honest truth about this kind of site is that the writing matters more than the technology.
Built as static files, so it loads immediately and there is nothing to maintain, patch or update. If you need to change your opening hours twice a year, we would rather do it for you in ten minutes than hand you a content management system to learn and secure.
Content-driven sites
Where you or your team publish regularly: news, guides, case studies, a blog that is actually written. This is where a content management system earns its place, and where we will usually recommend WordPress, set up deliberately rather than by default.
Deliberately means a theme built for your site rather than bought and bent into shape, the smallest number of plugins that does the job, and a clear separation between what a writer can change and what only we should touch.
Data-backed sites
Sites whose pages come from a dataset rather than from someone typing them: a directory, a register, a price comparison, a set of area or location pages. Hundreds or thousands of pages, each one genuinely different because the data behind it is different.
This is the most technical work we do and it has a specific failure mode worth naming. If the pages are generated from data but say nothing a reader could not get elsewhere, search engines treat the whole set as thin and ignore it. So the useful version of this work starts with a question about the data, not about the template: what does this dataset let us say that nobody else is saying?
Hosting and migrations
Hosting on our own UK server, with a Let's Encrypt certificate that renews itself, daily automated deployment from the site's source, and PHP available where a site needs it.
Migrations are the more common request. Moving a site from another host, or off a platform, or onto a new domain, and the part that gets done badly is almost always the redirects. Every URL that existed and now does not needs to point at the right new page, and the ones with no equivalent need to say so properly rather than quietly returning a "not found" that search engines retry for months.
Worth knowing before you move a site: we check what is actually indexed and what links to it before changing anything, because the pages worth redirecting are the ones with real links pointing at them, and those are rarely the pages anyone remembers.
Ongoing care
Not a maintenance contract with a page count. What it means in practice: the certificate renews, the software gets updated, the backups exist and have been tested by restoring one, and someone notices if the site goes down or a page starts returning an error.
Most of this is automated, which is the only way it gets done consistently. What is not automated is looking at the result, and that is the part worth paying for.
What would this cost?
It depends on the number of pages, whether the content exists already, and whether anything needs to talk to another system. We would rather ask a few questions and give you a real figure than publish a starting price that turns out not to apply to you.
