SEO Preston #5 – The Custard Media Short Guide to Link Building
Welcome to the latest offering from my SEO in Preston blog! This week I was asked to produce a guide to link building so we can show potential Custard Media customers why they should be looking for links and how we can help.
Below is the short version – trust me there is a much longer version too!
The Custard Media guide to Link Building
Link Building is a core SEO technique. Having strong, relevant links to your site is one of the major factors in deciding where the major search engines like Google will rank your pages and WITHOUT links, you can forget about that coveted number one position.
Be warned however, not all links are equal and some link-building techniques can be safer and more successful than others. Fortunately, we at Custard Media have a wealth of experience in this area and our expertise has been condensed into this handy guide.
Why practise link building?
Links are seen as a recommendation for your site. Even if it’s clear what your site is about, search engines want to present information in order of relevance and quality, so a good way to do this is to see how many other sites ‘recommend’ yours.
How do Custard Media build links?
Here at Custard we consider:
- Where to build links – relevant, authoritative sites
- How the link should be structured – good anchor text, embedded within relevant content
- When to build links – so that search engines don’t see an ‘unnatural’ link acquisition
- Why would someone want to add a link? – are we giving them some kind of discount, quality content or just a great site to link to?
Where do Custard find sites to approach?
Finding sites to get links from can be time consuming. To make the process more efficient, Custard Media will use the following techniques:
- Competitor analysis – how did competitors build their links, who already links to them, which are their best links?
- Make our own links – through guest blogging, article submission, directory submission and many more techniques
- Encourage organic links – by adding quality content that will naturally attract attention and merit links from other sites. Think about text, images, video, infographs, competitions, tools, downloads…
That’s about it – Although link building is a complex process that can’t be sufficiently explained in one blog post. Find out how Custard Media can make link building work for you.
