The SEO in Preston blog is celebrating its first Google number one position… Sort of!
Thanks to the technical difficulties that have frustratingly cropped up over the last couple of weeks, the SEO in Preston blog itself is ranking nowhere near the first page. This despite some cracking posts on internal linking and link building, amongst others.
However, a quick Google search today revealed that my post on the Custard Media blog promoting the SEO in Preston blog is sitting pretty at the top of the tree – even though this particular blog post was referred to as “cheesy” by certain members of the Custard team – I think you’ll find I won that one!

This post (number 7 in the life of SEO Preston – how time flies) is all about internal linking. Inbound links are a major factor in determining search engine rankings, and while internal links are not as effective as links from external sites, they are extremely useful for a number of reasons.

Google recently released its very own call tracking solution, with the promise of better website conversion thanks to the ability to see exactly which adverts are bringing in revenue.
This is achieved by generating a unique phone number for each ad, but already Google’s ‘Adwords Call Metrics tool is being outshone by similar products that have been there, seen it, got the conversion data.

SEO in Preston: About me, themes and widgets
The blog is starting to take shape, with a fancy new wordpress theme installed and an about me page uploaded.
The first SEO fail has occurred however, albeit a minor one. The theme came with external links built in that are waiting to sap any link juice that might be passed to me when the blog is indexed – as this blog is about SEO in Preston I should really find a theme that is SEO-friendly, so the next job for this afternoon is to find a new ‘clean’ theme, followed by a foray into the world of widgets.
